Job Fair Atlanta Knowledge Base
What's to be expected at the Atlanta Police Academy Job Fair? Tomorrow I am going to the job fair held at the Atlanta Police Academy? What should I expect? They mentioned it being a testing center but I believe I already took the Compass Test to get my GED. I also took a test given at the beginning of the hiring process to become a Cobb Co Firefighter. I think it was Civil Services Exam. Either way, it was a long test that covered basic knowledge. I think I'd be a good candidate for Atlanta Police Academy with one exception. I don't have any police experience. I worked security at a bar for about 7 months but they are closed down and I have no way of contacting them for a reference. The listing did say that experience wasn't required. I have never been arrested, my only speeding ticket (16 over) was back on May 5th, 2006, I'm drug free, and so on. How long does the hiring process take? What will the test (if there is one) going to cover tomorrow? What are my chances of landing the job? I'm 21 and needing a career move. If anyone has any info I'd greatly appreciate it.
Anyone know a good paying CDL job in Atlanta GA for a guy w/a domestic felony? I have a CDL license and I'm trying to find a good paying tractor trailer truck driving job with a company that has equipment that works good and are fair with the pay. I have a domestic felony that keeps me from the "good" companies. Every co I've found has "ripped me off" in pay, mileage, and/or faulty equipment that keeps breaking down. Anyone have any info for me in the Atlanta, GA area?
how is Atlanta Georgia job market.? i've been thinking about moving from new york to atlanta by the beginning of the new year 2011 (jan, feb). How likely might i be if i save up and i come and look for a job that i find one within a few months.I do have a lot of work experience and some college credit associate to be exact. Is the job market out there fair, bad, do they value people from other states better then in state or vis versa. as much info someone can tell me would be greatly valued in helping me make my decision.
Do you consider job fairs and an effective way to find employment opportunities? Every month all across America, there are job fairs going on where a employment agency or a business puts together a collection of employees to set up booths so that they can have Representatives come and speak to prospective candidates who want jobs in a particular field or industry. Because of the challenging economy facing the United States, many job fairs that do occur will see hundreds of applicants come just to see if they can speak with representatives about employment opportunities. Although job fairs are a great way for prospective candidates to network with companies and other job seekers, they might not be an effective way to find a job because many times, there is poor representation from the company and some companies that say they are going to show up end up not coming to the job fair? Do you believe attending a job fair is an effective way to finding employment opportunities? Why or why not? As a job seeker myself, I have attended many job fairs this year all over my state and I have had more success finding opportunities at local job fairs than in a major city (Atlanta). I believe job fairs are not the most effective way of finding employment opportunities because many times, they do not have what you are looking for in a company and when an employer gets hundreds of resumes, there is no guarantee that the employers will look at your resume. I believe the most effective way to finding a job is through networking because over 80% of jobs are never advertised and going to a job fair does not guarentee you are going to find yourself your very next job.

What is a fair relocation package and what can/should i ask for? My husband has been offered a new position with same company in a different state. (From Atlanta, GA to Scranton, PA)They have offered him $125,000. He currently makes $65,000 and combined we make $136,000 per year. In moving I will be giving up my great job, so is it ok to ask for them to at least give us enough to make up what I will be giving up? (meaning increasing offer to $136,000 per year?) ( I will be giving up contributing to my retirement and stocks in addition to my salary.) My husband says we cannot expect them to care about my salary, but I disagree, who is right here? I also think they should pay for a trip for entire family to check out this city before making a decision, isn;t this typical.? What other things should we consider and ask for in this decision? ( we own a home and have three teenagers).
What is best area of Atlanta? I am 22 years old, graduating from university soon, and plan to move with my mom to the Atlanta area. She is going through a divorce, and I would like to be there for her for a semester or two. Anyway, we have family in Georgia and my mom has always loved Georgia. She wants to moth to either Atlanta or Columbus. I would prefer Atlanta since I am young and its a big city, and for the same reason she is hesitant. What would be a great area for someone like me (22 year poly sci graduate) and my mom (47 year old teacher, recently divorced) She wants calm and small, I want busy and fun. Obviously, we wont find both, and I'm definatly willing to compromise for her. I heard Buckhead is great, but I dont know if that would be great for my mom... Anyway, please anyones advice would be very helpful for me to start looking into the area. We may go there next weekend for a job fair for my mom to attend, so I can check out the areas then...
Resume help for hopeful new teacher please? I will be going to a job fair on Saturday here in Atlanta to hopefully find a job for the 2006/2007 school year in my county I live in. I have spent 10 years in the corporate world, and want to make a career change to become an elementary school teacher. I have taken the certification tests required. What do you suggest that I put on my resume, and how should I dress for the job fair. Should I arrive early, mid-day, or towards the end of the day? Any help would be greatly appreciated...thank you! Even though i'm in the corporate world right now, the teachers in the county that I want to teach in make $10,000 more than what I make right now. I asked and they do have teaching opportunities right now, even with school starting so soon.
How do I apply for Welfare in Atlanta, Georgia? I can't get a job cause no one wants to employ me, and I need $$$$. Is there anyway of making my payments private so I don't have to pay my ex-girlfriend child support as well. If the bitch didnt want to support her baby, she should of had an abortion. To blame me for her own mistakes isnt fair
Why am I having so much trouble finding a Retail job? Okay, so I'm not the most experienced person in the world. I was laid off at the end of December (with a general separation notice) by Circuit City, who of course, closed all of their stores and entire company. I worked there from August 2008 to December 2008. I had no idea the company would just up and close like that. Anyway, it took me a while to find that one at Circuit City, even. I was unemployed and worked temp jobs from the end of December 2007 to August 2008. I couldn't find a stable job then. My jobs before that were working at an Office Depot store from 10/2005 to 12/2007. I was promoted while there and pretty much cross-trained in all departments (sales associate who knew about everything there, cashier, print center, warehouse/stocker). Before that, I worked at a cinema cafe for about a year as a customer service associate/cashier. I have 3 years of Customer Service/Cashier experience, a couple of years of Merchandising/Warehouse/Sales Associate experience...and I can't find a freaking job in Atlanta, Georgia. I must have applied at every single company, store, etc. that i could think of. Not one call. Now, I'm sure there are many out there with 5+ years of experience, management experience, etc. But...aren't a lot of them 'overqualified' for the lowest positions, too? I went to a Radioshack hiring fair a while back. I was apparently denied a job there for seemingly no reason - they sent me an email saying they "didn't have a position that matched my experience." I was going for a typical sales associate position - not spectacular about that. I have sales experience, i was a lead sales in Technology at Office Depot and could also sell pretty much everything at Circuit City. So I was WTF. Yet I see they keep posting every day or two that they need "full-time and part time sales associates in Atlanta, Georgia." Obviously, I'm not trying them again...they have a Resume on file for a year. But I've noticed stuff like this happening to me at various retail stores. Is there something "bad" in my employment history or what? Why is it so ridiculously hard And...pardon the missing words and spelling/grammar errors. It wasn't that way on an application, Resume or cover letter, of course. lol I was in a hurry typing that. And it's not the recession...i'm also applying to companies that are advertising that they are hiring.

why do i have to gain employment in a city that i am not yet a resident of? i am wanting to move to fulton county but the housing authority(sec.8) there is saying that i'd have to be employed to do so,yes employed in atlanta,to be excepted,is that fair???i am employed currently in my city, georgia, but it will probably take me some time to gain employment in atlanta,i have been looking tho.i just dont understand that i've never heard anything of the such, hell what address do i put on my job applications,i am basically being asked to walk before i crawl?ok please someone shed light on this for me,somebody anybody.
Why is Northwest Airlines so eager to merge with Delta? I'm really upset because I like MSP - Minneapolis Airport and they've done an outstanding job keeping flights on schedule and accomodating customers like me in Minneapolis. - NEVER ONCE BEEN DELAYED. ! It's a well-run airport and manages its operations more smoothly than Atlanta-Hartfield. I am very unhappy that Minneapolis is losing its big hub, I'm very strongly opposed to the merge and think it's not fair to Northwest. Edit: neilinpd, it's unfair to Northwest employees that Northwest management can't appreciate how strong their airline can be without needing Delta. My argument is that Northwest spokespeople could do a better job representing the interests of Northwest as a whole. They are selling their own airline short.
Has anyone ever worked for nationwide southeast in in atlanta georgia and had a bad dealing with them. i have? I worked for them and was forced to run over hours, not paid for all miles driven, drove a unsafe truck, etc. i want to know how many others had the same rotten experience and had nationwide southeast inc atlanta georgia put negative slanderous remarks on their DAC report too. it is not fair what they do when a driver leaves to get a better job and i would like to know how many more are going through or went through what i did with them and how they got through it and found a job. i am stuck for finding a trucking company now. they said i was not RE-HIREABLE, but i have messages from them begging me to come back.... why would a company who is suppose to be professional stick lies on a DAC report and then ask you to come back... If anyone can help me out on this one i would appreciate it.

Why are so many of my black co-workers so damn rude? Seriously, I have had my fair share of rude white co-workers as well. However, most of the time it is for a valid reason due to frustration. However, some of my black co-workers are just rude just to be rude. Why is that? BTW, 26 year old white male living in Atlanta and working at Wal-Mart until I find something better after losing my banking job last fall.
Where to waitress in Atlanta and earn a lot of money? I am moving to Atlanta soon and I need to know where to work that will allow me to earn as much in tips that I can. I will not work in strip joints/gentleman clubs. I'm talking about fancy restaurants, good old fashioned club (where people hang out and drink and dance), etc. Since waitresses make a low hourly wage I will really need great tips because I will have to work 2-if not more-jobs to get by. I am 23 yrs old (strawberry blond hair, green eyes, fair skin and athletic build) with an outgoing personality and a major people person. Strawberry Blond hair is similar to red hair. Except I have all the natural colors blended in (red, blond, black and brown) The black and brown are mainly closer to the roots. And you can see the red and blond better. The red comes out in the winter and in the summer a little blond shines through but I still have a good bit of red the shines through at the same time.
I NEED HELP IMMEDIATELY!!!! CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME FINISH MY ESSAY. I DONT KNOW WHAT ELSE TO WRITE .? Ive made a fair deal of bad decisions in my life. In the past five years I have skipped countless days in school, been on probation, and seen a good amount of time behind bars. With that being said the worst decision I've mad by far is dropping out of school. I dropped out of school about two years ago. I was really frustrated at the time because I understood the work but still got bad grades. After a while I began to feel that staying in school was hopeless. The thing that finally made me quit was my report card. I had all D's and F's . for me that was my wake up call. I left school that day and never went back. My original plan was to get a job and get my own apartment. Unfortunately, thing didn't work out quite that way. After about eight months of searching for a job I began to see a pattern. Every single job that I applied for required that I either be in high school or have a high school diploma or GED. Thats when I realized how important an education was. The thought of going back to high school something that I dreaded. The last thing I wanted was to go back to my old high school. It was around that time that I began looking into GED programs. It was also around that time that I realized how much of a dead lock I was in. there were only two GED programs in my area. Both of them required that all applicants must be at least eighteen years of age. There were no exceptions. My choices were to either wait a whole year until I turned 18 or go back to high school. I did not want to waist any more time doing nothing so I decided to go back to where it all started: Oak Ridge High School in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. About three days before I was due back in school my mom called from Atlanta, Georgia with some great news. She had found out about a program call Job Corps. She gave me the website and told me to look it up. Past experiences with GED programs made me more than a little skeptic. I still looked it up though. Turns out, job corps was more than just a GED program. It was a job training program. Job Corps offered high school diplomas, GED's, and trades in many fields. Best of all I actually met the age requirements which was a miracle to me. After speaking with my mom for a while we decided it would be best if I went to a job corps center in Georgia. I packed up my cloths and the next day I was on a greyhound bus headed to Atlanta. Gaining admissions into job corps was a long process but in the end it was well worth it. It all started when I called the outreach and admissions center on Cleveland Avenue. I gave them some basic information and had an appointment set up to meet an admissions counselor. At the outreach and admissions office I had the chance to learn more about the program. I met with my counselor about three more times before I had the chance to choose which job corps center I would like to attend. My original choice was the Turner center because it had a trade in desktop publishing. I was put on a six week waiting list. About four weeks after being put on the list my counselor called and told me that I would have to wait another 2 months because the center was full. Fortunately there were two other centers that were accepting applicants. Those centers were the Atlanta job corps center and the Brunswick job corps center. I chose the Atlanta job corps center because it was close to home and it had a trade similar to the one I wanted to go into. Two weeks passed before I finally got the call from the Atlanta job corps center telling me to come in. on my first day of school i was ushered into a room with about 30 other students. As we took our seats there was only one thing on my mind. i was back in school. on that day i made a promise to my self that i would not leave job corps without my high school diploma. seven months have passed since that first day.
Do I care about career more than family? My bf and I have been dating for around 2 years now but its a long distance relationship. So now we are trying to settle down in a common place. He is planning to find a job in big cities like atlanta after which i am going to move to whereve he finds a job (im currently in wisconsin and he is in mississippi). He is currently staying in a very small university town where there arent many prospects. But he asked me if I would consider moving to the town but I refused cause I think my career will be affected because of it. He accused me that my priorities are all mixed up cause I am more concerned about my career than us staying together. I told him that I wont have any problems moving to big cities like atlanta etc where the job prospects are better but I wont like to move to a town with very few growth opportunities. He said that I am very career minded and money minded...is that a fair deduction? Am I wrong in thinking this way?
Where is my equal opportunity? My name is Christin Pool and I am unable to be hired for a job that I spent over four years successfully performing as a S.T.E.P (Student Temporary Employment Program) employee with the National Park Service at Canaveral National Seashore because I am not a veteran. The fact that I received awards, above average performance evaluations and letters of praise while working as a park guide GS-4 means nothing. My Associate in Arts degree, Magna Cum Laude Bachelor of Science degree and a 3.9 GPA Masters in Public Administration degree are useless when compared to a 10 point veteran. On April 24, 2009 I received an email from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Atlanta Services Branch stating that only 10 point veterans would be referred for the vacancy pertaining to the park ranger GS-5 position at Canaveral National Seashore vacancy #247859. The one job in the world that I am without a doubt completely qualified for and I will never have it. Veterans’ preference is a discriminatory hiring practice because it renders federal employment impossible for those who have not served in the military and given the current hiring atmosphere being a veteran is a requirement. Given the fact that I have scoliosis (top curve 53˚, bottom curve 30˚) and cannot serve per the Department of Defense 6130.4 Instructions which state that the top curve must not be greater than 30˚ and the bottom curve must not be greater than 20˚, I am automatically excluded from federal employment. The National Park Service is not hiring the best possible applicants for available positions. Supervisors are forced to settle for what the OPM gives them based on an antiquated and discriminatory law. The chance of anyone who is not a veteran being employed grows slimmer each day. Alternative hiring practices such as the Federal Career Intern Program and the Outstanding Scholar Program have been virtually outlawed by the OPM following lawsuits files by veterans who claimed these programs violated the concept of hiring based on fair and open competition. What competition? To be truly fair and competitive, jobs would have to be based solely on a person’s qualifications without regard for any other factor. Where is my equal employment opportunity?
Husband wants me to have abortion, says he isn't think he feels the same about me- alone and confused? My husband and I went through a very bad year, and we moved to atlanta for jobs that my sister helped us to get in door. My husband had been unemployed for an extended period of time- limited to no income for 3 years. I had been laid off and underwent treatment for cancer. Between my health and what I see as his struggle with depression we were beyond the boiling point- rock bottom. Moving, a steady income, and a fresh start seemed to be what we needed. Its not that it was perfect over night, but it was moving in the right direction. We were going to move into our own place next week., we have been going ou and there was passion and tenderness. . We are both well educated and though new at our jobs, earn a good joint income right now and have started to rebuild our savings. The night before last he assured me that he loved me and really wanted to be married to me and grow old together... Then yesterday I told him I was pregnant and he told me he wasn't sure if he really loved me, and wanted me to have an abortion. He basically accused me of trying to trap him with a pregnancy or acted like it was deliberate.I had been told that due to endometriosis and the treatments I had gone through for cancer, it was unlikely that I would conceive with out assistance. We used contraceptives every time we were intimate despite what the doctors told me. We did have broken condemn and I did get pregnant. It is a shock to me too, not some plot. I am afraid of raising a child alone, or bringing a child into the world who isnt wanted by its father. I am afraid of losing my husband, and know men aren't lining up to step in and date a women with a baby or even a young kid. My heart is broken to hear that my husband doesn't know if he loves me because despite it all I love him, and that he wants to abort the baby. I am here in a new city with no one to talk to and I don't know what to do. I called in sick to work just cant stop crying. If I am going to be single anyway maybe I shouldn't have a child. Is it even fair to have this child? My heart is so broken and I am so scared.
Hey girls! A little help? What should I do? I've been friends with Mandy for 12 years. We met when I was a junior and she a freshman in college. We hated each other at first but became best buds not too long after. Anyway, we moved in together right after she graduated and have shared an apartment since. She went to NYC (we live in Atlanta) for training w/ her job and stayed 8 weeks. She just got back on Sunday. Anyway, when she got back she surprised me by bringing back some guy she met up there and he’s already proposed! She wants to move there and work out of that branch of her company to be with him. While she was gone I missed her so much and realized it was because I love her. I’ve never been one to commit to a relationship. I’ve just sleep w/ a lot of people… I’m done with that though.. I just want her. Well she’s supposed to move at the end of the month and I really don’t want her to. I want to show her that I’m the right person for her. Every time she has described her perfect guy she would describe me to a T except for the man-whore part.. We know everything about each other. All our favorites and secrets we’ve never told anyone else.. How can I make her fall in love with me without making it obvious? I don’t want to come right out and tell her. That wouldn’t be fair to her. How can I do it subtly? But not too subtle because I only have 2 weeks!!! Help!!!

In the state of Georgia, can the parent of a 17 year old keep that 17 year old from working? I recently ended a job at a Hilton hotel in downtown Atlanta because my mother told my manager that I will not be coming back to work. I am now out of a job after having worked there for only 6 weeks. To my knowledge, Georgia is a "Right to Work" state, but I do not know exactly what that means. Every time I look it up, I get information about labor unions, fair pay, and the rights of people under 16 (hours, wages, etc.), but nothing about whether a parent can bar their child from working. If anyone can give me any information on this, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!
Who Likes My Avatar BBall section? Its of the 2009 8th seed. That will do something the 2008 8th seed, Hawks did not do and that is finish the job against Boston, 1st seed. You see Atlanta is a very athletic team and that is what threw off the Celts. Well, like the Celts - the Bobcats are 1 of the best defensive teams in the league. Our offense comes and goes, but we are offensively alright in addition to the great d brought to you by Larry Brown. So, we will stifle the Celts to victory. Plus, we have our fair share of athleticism in G.Force, Diaw, and DJ.
Three part question regarding illegal immigrants? I live in a small town in Tennessee. The population of illegal immigrants from Mexico is HUGE here. I know many who have entered our country legally and many of those have opened Mexican shops and grocery stores. Due to the high population of immigrants here, most stores have signs which lists their names in both English and Spanish. I do know of illegal immigrants who drive cars here...In fact a year ago an illegal immigrant smashed into 2 people driving a motor cycle and then fled the scene, leaving them to die. The illegal immigrant who caused the accident fled our town and went to Atlanta. I do not know that they are truly even trying to find this person at this point. Illegal immigrants drive regularly here...I know that for a fact as does everyone else, yet never ONCE in the 5 years I have lived in this small Tennessee town have I seen ever ONE road block set up by local police. I am from KY and road blocks were common there, especially on the weekends. The population of Mexicans in my old Kentucky home was VERY low though. In fact, only 20 people in a population of 15,000. Nurseries and green houses are a huge industry in my current TN town and many nurseries here mostly employ illegal immigrants, paying them in cash because (as they claim) "they are hard working individuals who are determined to get the job done, unlike many locals." My children's schools are filled with children who I know to be the children of people residing illegally in our country. Now to my questions: 1) A local retired police officer recently told me that our county does not set up road blocks to catch illegal immigrants because that would be considered racial profiling and the ACLU would be all over it. What is a fair argument against that? I asked him why a road block would have to be set up JUST to catch illegal immigrants. They aren't the only ones breaking the law around here. 2) Why do our schools go to such great lengths to provide Spanish translators and accept children whose parents are WIDELY KNOWN to be in our country illegally? What does our school gain by taking in these kids? 3) On the argument that illegal immigrants work harder than Americans, would it be fair to argue that Americans would work just as hard if paid a decent wage? I've been told by many that illegals "take the jobs that Americans do not want." I don't think that is fair to say. I am willing to clean toilets for 9 bucks an hour and would clean them spotlessly, while an illegal immigrant would do the same job for 5 bucks an hour cash. Is it fair to argue that Americans WOULD work just as hard, but are just not willing to do the job for a low wage? As a 4th question...WHY does our country seemed to cater to individuals working illegally in our country? The only answer I can come up with is that they are spending money in our shops...What's the deal? Bobapril, please explain to me how setting up a road block and asking for someone's legal state drivers license would be considered racial profiling? I know of 2 individuals living near me who are in our country illegally yet they drive on a regular basis...however they have NO drivers license at all because they cannot provide the legal documentation to obtain one... They wouldn't even have to ask for proof of citizenship. Driving without a license is a crime in our country, isn't it? And I have been stopped in MANY road blocks and have always at least been asked for my driver's license. Are you saying I should be upset by that? There are just trying to uphold the law. Considering I am always 100% legal with insurance and proper registration, I am grateful that they do this (in OTHER places, certainly not HERE) because they are getting illegal drivers off the streets. At least for awhile. Pabbakkass...whatever. I do not hate Mexicans. I dislike the idea of ANYONE illegally entering our country then benefiting from my tax dollars, taking our jobs and causing accidents while not legal or insured drivers. I have 4 of my 5 children taking after school Spanish lessons weekly because I want them to be able to communicate with LEGAL local immigrants, which are in great numbers here. They have been taking lessons for 2 years now and I continue to take them weekly. Again, I don't hate Mexicans. I hate the idea that we seem to cater to illegals. End of story.
Single, Pregnant & wants advice on Medicaid...help! Please hold criticism I am trying to do what is right and would like advice. I am 24 yr old, who indeed got knocked up, however I do have my life somewhat together I own a brand new home and have a pretty decent job at a firm, however I am still having a hard time as it is without a child trying to keep up with bills, since gas prices have gone up, things have gotten a lot harder for me because I have a lot of credit card debt and right now I am focusing on getting rid of most of it before my baby comes. I am 7 weeks prego and I learned of Medicaid, I have not yet went to apply because I am scared I will be denied because they think I earn too much money. Which is not fair I make $976 every two weeks but my mortgage is $925 and lets not forget I have a car note, insurance etc. So I had hoped that it would be no problem to get Medicaid once I shown them proof of bills, but as I spoke with people who have Medicaid etc. they are telling me that doesn’t matter and I still would not be able qualify. I can’t afford to pay a co-pay every time I see the Dr. and when I actually give birth I don’t even want to see the bill of what’s leftover from what my regular insurance that I have with my job hasn’t picked up. My question is does anyone know exactly the qualifying income for Atlanta, GA? Or anyone had this same problem? I was told by a few people there is one specific office in Atlanta that does not require you to bring proof of income because they really don’t go by the books etc. I am not sure so I was going to see if I can walk in there and tell them I make $600 every 2weeks and see what happens but I am also scared it will bite me in my butt later. This lady I know said that is what she did, she said the people there are extremely rude but she did what she had to do and she got Medicaid and her daughter is 7mnths now. first off i am grown woman and i am owning up to my mistakes i already stated that the a*holes who have dumb comments keep it to yourself...the father who is an ex has dipped out, i will try & get child support if i can once the baby is born he owns his own business so sometimes its a little tougher...now i was thinking that with my insurance that because of all the crazy stuff they use and because i am pregnant i assumed the copays go up if its $20 a mnth i can afford that, but i was told i will be seeing dr. every week to every 2 weeks. The OBGYn i will be seeing is 17 miles from my job but 35 miles from my home but it is also the # 1 rated hospital in GA & i want the best for my child so i was considering gas & an increase in copays. I highly doubt i was planning on lying i work for the legal system so I don't think i can quite pull myself to do it, like i said i dont want it to bite me in the butt later.thanks but no thanx for the bad advice from the people with the nasty comments

Need help deciding on place to move - have various possibilities? I recently got married, and my husband absolutely hates where we live now and wants to move. In fact, I agreed to move before we got married (unfortunately). I have only lived in three states in my life - born in California (but would never live there again), then moved to Arkansas (don't want to live there again either), and currently reside in Tulsa, OK. Now I know a lot of you people from big urban cities would probably hate it here, but I actually really like living here and have lived here for 17 years. The city is just big enough to have a variety of things to do, traffic is not a problem, and the way of life is perfect for me here. All my family is within 2 hours from me (my family is very important to me), I have lots of friends here, job I love, house I love, etc.....I REALLY don't want to move, but I said I would make a compromise and move. My husband is originally from India (has no relatives here in the U.S.), and has lived in the U.S. since 2002. He lived in Philadelphia for 6 years and then moved to Tulsa for a job (that's how we met). Anyway, after being here, he found out he really doesn't like it here. He prefers the big city living (as in Philly), because you can travel by train or car and get to so many different places (New York, beaches, etc) in not much time, loves the urban city part like all the activities of a downtown life, and likes the "character" of the Northeast much better than the South. Yes, I realize that Oklahoma is pretty flat, but the weather here is much better in my opinion, and yes, we do have hills, trees, grass, etc. here too. It's not really fair to make a comparison of the two areas because the climate, terrain is completely different, but I guess it's what you become accustomed to. So basically, he and I are pretty opposite in how we want to live, but we think we can make a compromise that we both can live with. Now we just have to decide on a city. He would love to go back to Philly, but the thought of living in the Northeast part of the U.S. is not appealing to me at all - I HATE THE COLD WEATHER and it is SO FAR AWAY from my family and friends. I personally think the Dallas, TX area would be a good compromise, but he said he definitely doesn't want to stay there the rest of his life - he says it's too hot and has no character. We already BOTH have some friends there, it's not too far from Tulsa (so easy to travel back and forth), definitely a big city, and large airport for traveling (he is a traveling consultant, so having a big airport nearby is crucial). Some other options that we are looking at are Atlanta, Tampa Bay or St. Petersburg area, Miami maybe, and Charlotte, NC. I'm trying to focus on areas in the South or Southeast mainly. These aren't the only options, and am open to other suggestions. I've only traveled through Atlanta, Tampa, and Miami - never been to NC at all. So I have no idea what it would be like to live there or what kind of cities these places are. If anyone could provide any insight on how it is to live in any of these places, that would be great. We're just trying to blend a little of what we both want and find somewhere that would be good for both of us. So key points are: bigger city that has large airport nearby, lots of activity (like downtown life, etc), nicer weather than in the north, somewhere where you can drive your car to work (around a 30 min commute is fine) and not have to take pulic transportation, a fairly central place where you can drive a few hours and get to other interesting places, and nice housing opportunities (I definitely cannot do condo type living and prefer a suburban house with at least a 2 car garage). Thanks for any help! St. Louis and Kansas City are out - he already said no to those, which is fine with me also. Please don't think that my husband is entirely inflexible. Afterall, I don't want to go North either. Hadn't thought of Nashville, but will check it out. As far as kids, not sure that's in the cards for us. I'm already 43 (no kids), and while it's not out of the realm of possiblity, the chance of that happening at this point for me probably are not good. So schools are really aren't a primary concern. I know Dallas and Atlanta areas are HUGE and there's so many places to live. What would be some good options as far as an area to buy a home? We both make really good money, so a home around $300K $400K is not out of the question for us in the Dallas area. I know the Frisco area of Dallas is pretty far out and the Fort Worth area is pretty sparse - so probably will stay away from those two. Don't know anything about Atlanta or what areas are good/bad.
i was involved in an auto collision. we were waiting at the tracks for a train to pass when...? the 18 wheeler 5 ft in front of me decides he wants to make a u-turn in a 2 lane road. so what does he do...despite having about 8 cars behind him? he reverses and slams into the front of my car. i was leaning down at the time grabbing something from my pocketbook so when his truck hit my car, by body jerked with my head hitting the back of the seat and wrist hitting the window. asap, i put my car in reverse and before i even get the opportunity to step on the gas for more than two seconds he hits me again. my hood and reflector are damaged. i have a honda element so the area around the lights are damaged too. nothing on me is broken. my x rays have shown that there is damage to my lower spine and neck. i dont want to be in court forever litigating but chiropractors and doctors period arent cheap. my job is doing lay offs and while i have insurance now, it is not promised to me tomorrow, especially in this economy. what is a fair settlemetnt price bearing in mind my back injury? random info.i live in atlanta..and if anyone could give advice lemme know He already claimed fault. He said he didnt see me and after he hit me the first time, he said he didnt know he hit me so he backed up even further I dont have a witness. He has already confessed to hitting me bacause he didn't see me either time he hit me and no beeping sound was made. he just backed up willy nilly without looking bc he thought he had more space
Why did it make sense for TSA to stop this illegal immigrant from going home? Honduran man tried to go home but airport officers, citing paperwork problems, wouldn't let him board flight. Jenner Rivas wanted to go home. After seven years of living in the country illegally, the 28-year-old from Honduras said he could no longer live in fear of being discriminated against or deported. He no longer felt welcome. So his mother wired him $400 to buy a plane ticket. He packed his bag and on May 15 had his pastor drive him to Charlotte/Douglas International Airport. After retrieving his boarding pass, he walked to security. He handed the agent his temporary passport. The agent asked him to step aside and wait. After a roughly two-hour interview, he said officials ripped up his boarding pass and told him he would not be able to fly. For all the talk of enforcing the nation's immigration laws, the country seems to be doing a better job keeping some illegal immigrants in the country than keeping them out. “If so many people hate us in this country, why do they stop us when we try to leave?” Rivas said. Transportation Security Administration spokesman Jon Allen said security officers have to verify that passengers are really who they say they are. He said only certain forms of ID are acceptable, such as federal- or state-issued photo ID or foreign government-issued passports. Officers said Rivas did not present an acceptable form of ID. As a result, they attempted to verify Rivas' identity through TSA's national operations center and various public databases. “The officers spent nearly an hour attempting to verify this passenger's identity,” Allen said in an e-mail, “but because they were unable to do so, he was not able to proceed through the screening process.” Rivas presented a “provisional passport” issued by the Honduran consulate specifically for nationals traveling back to Honduras. It includes Rivas' date of birth, gender, photo, fingerprint and multiple stamps issued by the Honduran government. Jorge Medina, president of the advocacy group Hondureños Unidos in Charlotte, said the matter should be reviewed. He said U.S. officials should meet with the Honduran representatives to clear up confusion over travel documents in these cases. “If they were investigating if he was a fugitive, that'd be fine. But if it's a normal person who presents an official document and shows that he's leaving because he no longer wants to be in the United States, then it's not fair to hold him,” Medina said. Latino advocates in Charlotte said cases like Rivas' are common. Angeles Ortega-Moore, executive director of the Latin American Coalition, said many undocumented immigrants want to leave the country but find themselves stuck in paperwork. Getting the appropriate travel documents from a person's home country can take months. It can be also be expensive if they have to drive to Atlanta or Miami to visit a consulate. If a couple have children, they'll need to compile documents such as marriage licenses, birth certificates and hospital bills to establish dual citizenship for children born in the United States. It can take even longer if one of the spouses has been arrested and is being processed for deportation. “People think that you can just walk out,” Ortega-Moore said. “But we've heard of people who are still here after five, six, eight months of trying to leave. In the meantime, you have to eat and pay your bills.” According to the pastor, Rivas was able to leave last Sunday by flying out of Atlanta. His paperwork was accepted there; it cost him an additional $200 to change his ticket. Roy Crisanto, Rivas' pastor, said Rivas should never have been stopped in Charlotte. Crisanto described the interview with security officers, which he interpreted, as aggressive and inappropriate. He said guards asked questions such as “‘Where did he live? Where did he work? How did he get into the country? Tell me the truth.'” Allen, the TSA spokesman, would not discuss the type of questions officers ask for security reasons, but he said they're questions that a passenger should be able to answer so officers can verify their identity. He added that Rivas's answers were evasive, which led to a longer interview. “He was trying to leave,” Crisanto said. “It's just so frustrating. He had a valid ID from his country. They want to deport all these people, but when someone wants to leave on their own, they don't let them.” Tough exit for illegal immigrant http://www.charlotteobserver.com/597/story/755016.html?

Wrestlemania 27, Atlanta Georgia The Undertaker vs. Triple H (Streak vs. Career) Guest Referee Shawn Michaels (HBK will call it fair as Triple H and Undertaker would both want that. Should my father help support my mother while I am in college? I am a 20 year old college student in the Atlanta, Georgia area. I am a Pre-Med Biology major, and have plans to become a medical doctor specializing in trauma and emergency medicine. I commute about 60 miles 3 days a week for college. Recently, I have lost my job due to the economy. My dad has always had to pay about $800/month in child support to my mom, for the past 2 years, he has not had to. I live with my mom in a fairly large house, and she, as a single mom, pays all of the bills. She is an emergency room physician as well. Today, she and I added up how much she spends on me, it is roughly about $900 per month. My dad gives me $20 a week for gas. It doesn't even fill my tank all the way, and I end up asking my mom for extra gas money by the end of the week. Do you think that this is fair? Should I confront my dad about this situation? My mom has let it go for years now, and will not talk to him about it. I personally would like to confront him about the issue, and tell him I think it's unfair. What is your opinion? Any advice is welcome.
Was setting the slaves free to fend for themselves Really such a good idea? When the slaves were freed, many thousands of slaves who had low IQ, limited language and job skills, no idea how to live in a civilized society and no education were "set free". Was it smart to "turn them loose" on America? We have ended up with inner cities filled with HS dropouts, career welfare recipients, gov't housing, violence, drugs, ignorance etc. Was it really "fair" to unleash people on the country who have come from dung covered huts, limited language skills and no idea how to behave in a civilized society? Wasn't it silly to assume everyone was equal when in fact they were not and still are not. Based on IQ tests, SAT tests, welfare numbers, unemployment and prison stats, wasn't it unfair to assume a culture with NO experience in civilization could make it on it's own? I blame good old Abe Lincoln for places like Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, Houston, New Orleans, Oakland, LA and DC. How can you blame people for not being ready to be civilized? Sorry, I live in Oakland and my half Filipino son is in the school district. Read up on racial IQ's Richard Lynn is a good start. I feel bad for them actually, what chance did they have?
What shall be done in this situation? I work for my uncle's company in Atlanta and wife goes to an online school for her Phd, but she's not working. My hours got dropped so instead of working 5 days a week it'll be 4. My wife did come to me about working and I said it's up to her. She said that it wouldn't be good right now because of the economy and she wouldn't have any leverage like she did working as a psychotherapist in Virginia. She's telling me that she doesn't like how I feel down most of the time because it's affecting her. I'm applying for a second job to make up for the hours and trying to get my marketing business expanding. If my wife was working, she'd be making more than me. Her response to her not really working has me thinking if that's fair or not. I'm a young man and would like to know what shall be done so the both of us can be happy? Yes, we do have a 2-yr old daughter

Please edit my essay about Martin Luther King Jr.? I have to hand in this essay by tomorrow... and all my friends are busy doing that too. PLEASE HELP Thanks A Ton!! :D Martin Luther King Jr. He had a dream. A dream that one day, the black’s will live in a nation with peace, and freedom. “I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” –Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Luther King. Jr. was born with a name of Michael Luther King. Jr, but later changed to Martin Luther King Jr. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1929; a time when black people were separated from the whites. Negroes what they called black people because they had the same rights as the white people did. To most white people, “Negroes” didn’t have a name. They called them boy or girl, and even worse, “Nigger.” Then, Martin discovered that his house on Auburn Avenue was referred to as “Nigger Town,” to the whites. He thought that how poor he and the other black people were treated by the whites, weren’t fair at all. Martin Luther King Jr. is a hero because e wanted to stop racism. He got killed for speaking his mind about how the black people were being treated so poorly, but few days after Martin Luther King Jr. was shot, whites treated black people as more equal. Martin Luther King Jr. faces many obstacles of prejudice against African Americans. His white friends stopped playing with his because he was black, and was different to the white people. He was arrested, got subjected to personal abuse, and his own house got hit by a bomb when he stopped the seating spots between black, and white people. Martin Luther King Jr. gets assassinated while standing on his balcony with the garbage workers in his motel room by a man because of his hate to black people. Although Martin Luther King Jr. was faced by many obstacles, he passed it through and changed many races that the black people faced. He had many goals to change the rights black people faced from the whites. With his selfless wishes to change whatever made the blacks suffer, he needed to change it no matter what happens. When his mother said the world’s going to change one day, Martin promised her, “I’m going to turn this world upside down.” He also promised that there will be changes for racial justice, better housing, better schooling, and better jobs in the ghetto neighbourhoods of Chicago. He wanted the signs for “white only” or “colored only” signs to change, and just use everything in equal. Although Martin Luther King wasn’t treated as poorly as the other blacks were treated, he still had a care to do whatever he needed to change, and believed that soon they will stop getting treated poorly and live with peace. Finally, Martin as a leader of America’s civil rights movement, his hopes and dreams came true. After the union victory, several constitutional amendments were adopted and the Fifteenth Amendment gave black men the right to vote, desegregation, labour rights, and other basic civil rights and changed the world. He made black and whites reunite with eachother; both black and whites rode the buses in equal. For his outstanding work and success for what he achieved, and for making the lives for black people happy, he won the nobel peace prize for his leadership of America’s struggle for racism in 1964. In conclusion, Martin Luther King Jr. was able to achieve great amounts of success. His work was successful during the civil rights movement, and he helped gain many rights for African Americans which not only helped the African Americans, but helped all minorities. He organized and led marches for blacks’ right to vote, and was not afraid to stand up and spoke his heart to create diversity. Without Martin Luther King, the civil rights fight could have been much more violent, and also the laws for the white, and black people would stay the same. His fight was effective, and for the most part, he was successful and peaceful. Martin Luther King’s success created an everlasting memory to not only the black people, but to all of us. ugh, the thing with the stars says : Ni gg . er and as i read over them, i got a lot of typos LOL.. i think it's cuz i was just typing with me looking at the paper and writing it down haha.
Tell me if I'm just being a brat or not? I am 24 and I live in Atlanta. My dad is getting ready to move to Asia in less than a year, so we decided just to get an apartment together, and we would split the bills until he left. (It was going to help us both) Well now he has gotten married, and he is letting his wife live with us. (No big deal). But she doesn't work. I dont think it's fair. I'm super picky about my living quarters, and I get mad if something is out of place, or she doesn't fold the blanket on the couch, or she leaves a light on. Am I being ridiculous? I dont feel like it's right that I work two jobs and go to school, and she gets to sit at my place (use my internet/cable/electricity) and not pay a dime. EVEN though my dad is paying half. I don't want to come across as the bratty, jealous daughter... but I am upset about this. What should I do??
Please Review my martin luther king jr speech? This is for the modern woodsman 2009 (: He had a dream that one day, blacks will live in a world where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their charecter. Martin luther king jr was born with the name michael, but soon had it changed to martin. he was born in atlanta, georgia in 1929, a time where blacks and whites were seperated because they were of a different race. he thought that how poorly treated he and other blacks were treated, was not at all fair. martin luther king jr is a hero to me because unlike the others who thought racism was horrible, he actually got up, and said what he needed to say. few days after he spoke his mind, he was shot standing on the balcony of his hotel. Martin faced many obstacles of racism against him and other blacks. His white friends were forced to stop playing with him when they reached grade school. He was arrested many times, and his own house was bombed when he stopped the seating spots between blacks and whites. although he had been faced with many obatacles and choice, he passed through them, and helped change some of the many racist acts that blacks faced. martin had many goals to fix the horrid rights that blacks were given.he ahd selfless idea's to change these acts of racism. his mother told him, as a child, that one day this world will change, and blacks will have the same rights as whites. He said, he, martin luther king jr, will turn this world upside down. he said to himself he will help change the racist acts, and help give blacks better housing, jobs, and schooling. Martin, leader of a civils rights movement, had his dreams come true. After the victory of martin, the fifteenth amendmant gave black men the right to vote. Blacks and whites unit, both blacks and whites walk the streets together equally. in conclusion martin was able to fulfill his life long dreams. he helped gain many rights for blacks, same schools, resteraunts, and bus seatins. without martin luther king jr the laws for blacks would still be the same. he organized and led marhces, without using violence. His marches and speeches were effective, and for the most part, were all done successfully, and peacefully. his actions and words created an everlasting, never to be forgotten memory, in not only blacks, but all of us. I want you to think how would life for us all, be different of martin luther king jr. hadnt spoke up from his heart, spoke what everyone wished they couldve said. he showed not only me, but all of us, there is more to people than meets the eye. Ihope he has showed you, as he showed me, that bravey and courage, can win the fight. Speak up and you will be heard. Martin luther king Jr. A great hero for all to look up to :)

Help!!!

Is this a good paper the subject was thats the last time she would ever let it happen? That’s the last time she would let that happen. Anna couldn’t let it happen again it was getting out of control. Anna lives in the king of deep dish pizza otherwise known as Chicago Illinois. She has lived there since she was born. She never disliked the “windy city” she thought is was the best city in the world and never doubted it, she had great friends, great food and walking downtown could never fail to lift her spirits. Even though the winters were brutal and the crime rate was rottenshe was greatly optimistic. She was 5,3 had blonde hair, light skinned, and green eyes. Her best friends were Kayla who has been Anna’s friend since her first day at school they have had fights but never did anything really bad to hurt each other. Anna’s other best friend was Lily who was very serious about her school work and never really did anything to upset her parents like swear or be out to late. Anna and all her friends go to Brook’s Middle school. It wasn’t the best school but yet it wasn’t the worst. One day Anna was in math class and she was trying to daydream cause she was really good in math and she really knew everything the teacher was teaching, She aced every test. Anna was looking around the room and saw Lily, she didn’t look right Anna thought to herself usually Lily was about to fall asleep in class but now she was really hyper. Well she thought It was weird. Later that day they were in history and Lily forgot about the report she had to go on Eleanor Roosevelt and that counted 50% on your report card. No offence to her or anything but usually she is a bit of a “teacher’s pet” and usually doing her homework or a report is the number one thing on her mind, it’s the first thing she does when she gets home but missing this is really not like her. I glanced at Kayla and she was looking at Lily thinking the same thing, we looked at each other and were very confused. When we were out of school all three of us were walking home and I asked Lily why she missed her homework and she gave me the most half-witted answer I ever heard she said “I was busy.” Anna said, “what were you doing?” “None of your damn business! God! I just had some stuff to do!” She walks ahead of Kayla and Anna. Kayla and Anna were stunned and scared, that person that they were talking too was not the friend that they went to school with a week ago. When Anna and Kayla were walking home they talked about what Lily could be doing to herself. They really thought she was doing drugs but they couldn’t figure out why and who was supplying it. They new she was a girl who lets say “always listened to mommy and daddy.” Maybe she was trying to upset her parents. They knew they had to find out what was wrong with this girl if they didn’t she could really mess up her life. She have a future as a druggie or working at a minimum wage job for the rest of her life and always thinking back to when herself was 13 and she could of saved herself but gave into the addiction and didn’t go to rehab or get a shrink. The next day the three friends walked to school, the sky was a shade of gray and you could feel the humidity in the air. Anna asked Lily one question, “Why?” Lily stopped and looked at Anna with a straight face not even blinking, Then she ran ahead. Anna and Kayla tried to run ahead but then all of Kayla’s books fell out of her backpack so Anna and Kayla picked up the books but by the time they were done Lily was fare ahead. That day Kayla and Anna did not listen to one word the teacher said they were thinking about Lily and how they could help her. When the two friends got to lunch Lily wasn’t there. They looked down the lunch line, no Lily, in the hallway, no Lily, where is this girl. The two buddies looked in the girl’s bathroom sure enough lily was there, her face red as cherry, and as wet a waterfall. We quickly ran over to her and hugged her we asked her what was wrong. Then she said sniffling “My parents, I did everything they ever wanted. EVERYTHING! But now were moving. MOVING! Ok everything in my life was great but now. I took speed, you know the drug to upset my parents. I even let them find it in my room when they thought something was suspicious. When they found it I was there and I ran out the door, faster then I ever ran. Anna said, “Where do they want you to move and why?” They want me to move to Atlanta, Georgia because my dad is being transferred there and his job pays good, this isn’t fair. “Do they care about me, my life, what I have here in Chicago, as you say Anna Chicago is the best city in the world nothing will ever compare to this glamorous city. She blows her nose in a napkin and looks up at the ceiling and says in a quiet voice “Why me.” Anna and Kayla hug there vulnerable broken friend. There about to cry too. In conclusion Lily had to move, it was the hardest thing she ever had to o, leaving everything behind. Lily also never used “speed” again but her parents took her to a shrink which Lily doesn’t mind. In other matters Kayla and Anna are still best friends and still go to the same school. Lily come to Chicago every summer but she misses the winter.
