Job Fair Atlanta

In the state of Georgia, can the parent of a 17 year old keep that 17 year old from working?

I recently ended a job at a Hilton hotel in downtown Atlanta because my mother told my manager that I will not be coming back to work. I am now out of a job after having worked there for only 6 weeks. To my knowledge, Georgia is a "Right to Work" state, but I do not know exactly what that means. Every time I look it up, I get information about labor unions, fair pay, and the rights of people under 16 (hours, wages, etc.), but nothing about whether a parent can bar their child from working. If anyone can give me any information on this, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

  1. being below the age of 18 parent can do so
  2. If you are "emancipated" That means married or living outside the parental home on a permanent basis, then your mother has no say. But if you are living at home and they are furnishing your support then you are a dependent and they can keep you from working until you are 18.
  3. It does not appear so. http://www.dol.gov/dol/topic/youthlabor/ParentsofYoung.htm
