Three part question regarding illegal immigrants?
I live in a small town in Tennessee. The population of illegal immigrants from Mexico is HUGE here. I know many who have entered our country legally and many of those have opened Mexican shops and grocery stores. Due to the high population of immigrants here, most stores have signs which lists their names in both English and Spanish. I do know of illegal immigrants who drive cars here...In fact a year ago an illegal immigrant smashed into 2 people driving a motor cycle and then fled the scene, leaving them to die. The illegal immigrant who caused the accident fled our town and went to Atlanta. I do not know that they are truly even trying to find this person at this point. Illegal immigrants drive regularly here...I know that for a fact as does everyone else, yet never ONCE in the 5 years I have lived in this small Tennessee town have I seen ever ONE road block set up by local police. I am from KY and road blocks were common there, especially on the weekends. The population of Mexicans in my old Kentucky home was VERY low though. In fact, only 20 people in a population of 15,000. Nurseries and green houses are a huge industry in my current TN town and many nurseries here mostly employ illegal immigrants, paying them in cash because (as they claim) "they are hard working individuals who are determined to get the job done, unlike many locals." My children's schools are filled with children who I know to be the children of people residing illegally in our country. Now to my questions: 1) A local retired police officer recently told me that our county does not set up road blocks to catch illegal immigrants because that would be considered racial profiling and the ACLU would be all over it. What is a fair argument against that? I asked him why a road block would have to be set up JUST to catch illegal immigrants. They aren't the only ones breaking the law around here. 2) Why do our schools go to such great lengths to provide Spanish translators and accept children whose parents are WIDELY KNOWN to be in our country illegally? What does our school gain by taking in these kids? 3) On the argument that illegal immigrants work harder than Americans, would it be fair to argue that Americans would work just as hard if paid a decent wage? I've been told by many that illegals "take the jobs that Americans do not want." I don't think that is fair to say. I am willing to clean toilets for 9 bucks an hour and would clean them spotlessly, while an illegal immigrant would do the same job for 5 bucks an hour cash. Is it fair to argue that Americans WOULD work just as hard, but are just not willing to do the job for a low wage? As a 4th question...WHY does our country seemed to cater to individuals working illegally in our country? The only answer I can come up with is that they are spending money in our shops...What's the deal? Bobapril, please explain to me how setting up a road block and asking for someone's legal state drivers license would be considered racial profiling? I know of 2 individuals living near me who are in our country illegally yet they drive on a regular basis...however they have NO drivers license at all because they cannot provide the legal documentation to obtain one... They wouldn't even have to ask for proof of citizenship. Driving without a license is a crime in our country, isn't it? And I have been stopped in MANY road blocks and have always at least been asked for my driver's license. Are you saying I should be upset by that? There are just trying to uphold the law. Considering I am always 100% legal with insurance and proper registration, I am grateful that they do this (in OTHER places, certainly not HERE) because they are getting illegal drivers off the streets. At least for awhile. Pabbakkass...whatever. I do not hate Mexicans. I dislike the idea of ANYONE illegally entering our country then benefiting from my tax dollars, taking our jobs and causing accidents while not legal or insured drivers. I have 4 of my 5 children taking after school Spanish lessons weekly because I want them to be able to communicate with LEGAL local immigrants, which are in great numbers here. They have been taking lessons for 2 years now and I continue to take them weekly. Again, I don't hate Mexicans. I hate the idea that we seem to cater to illegals. End of story.

- 1. How do you know who's illegally here? Guess who's going to be stopped and harassed, and who's going to be waved through. 2. Adding Spanish translaters just means another American with a job..duh! Another job created. What makes them "WIDELY KNOWN to be in our country illegally"?. Is it the fact that they say "Peeksa", instead of "Pizza"....LOL 3. AHHHH! the good ol' wages excuse. Sorry dear, but many many farms have adverstised all over and have raised their wages, and we still have yet to see a blonde hair, blue eyed guy out there that isn't driving the airconditioned truck around while the other do the real work. This is the same reason why farms are moving to Mexico. 4. This question has already been asked on here...was that your other account you asked in? Nobody is catering to them, companies have come to rely on illegal immigrants because they can do the job better, faster and cheaper without making demands for benefits, longer starbucks breaks, weekends and Holidays off. http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20070204/news_lz1e4navarret.html Those jobs Americans won't do It's the big lie of the immigration debate: Namely, that Americans would eagerly and gladly do the jobs being done by illegal immigrants if only wages were higher. It started out as a rebuttal to President Bush's insistence that illegal immigrants “do jobs that Americans won't do.” Anti-illegal immigrant crusaders responded that these are actually “jobs that Americans won't do . . . for the wages offered.” There are actually people out there who like to believe that there's some magical hourly or daily wage that an employer could offer at which a slew of Americans would leave their desk jobs and line up for a chance to do some of the hardest, dirtiest and crummiest jobs our society has to offer. In many cases, there is no such wage.
- 1. We should be able to set up road blocks to catch criminals and illegals are indeed criminals. 2. I have no clue why they do this since it costs U.S. tax paying citizens millions of dollars. They came here by their choice so the children should be taught in English. It is widely known that immersion is the best way to learn a language. They should never be catered to. 3. They don't work harder. They live in herds so they can live off cheap pay. They send most of their money back to Mexico so therefore it is no longer being circulated in our economy. Employers should be able to pay decent wages or not be in business. 4. Illegals do spend some money, and when they do they pay sales taxes just like anyone else. However, what little they do does not make up for the amount spent on them. I have no clue why the government does not listen to the tax payers but if they are wise, they better start listening. A star for you for being a non oblivious tax paying citizen.
- 1) Not only would that be racial profiling, it would also be violating the 4th Amendment by conducting searches without probable cause. That also keeps them from expanding the road blocks to catch other crimes - you have to have a valid reason to make a stop. Even the road blocks set up to catch drunk drivers have been questioned as to constitutionality - and those are usually set up on Friday and Saturday night, when there's at least some reason to assume anyone driving has been to a bar or club. How would you feel when you run into that roadblock and have to provide your license and registration and proof of citizenship? How about the tenth time it happens? The hundredth? 2) The schools get Federal money for each student, and do not have to prove that the students are legal immigrants. Additionally, if you have a high number of legal immigrants, then the school district needs to provide the extra help (ESL classes, etc.) to them - so it is there for the illegal students as well. 3) You can argue that Americans would do the same work for more money...but so what? The businesses are trying to make a profit. They can make more of a profit by getting the work done for cheaper. The only way to stop it is to make it more expensive - greater fines for hiring illegals, and especially, stronger enforcement. 4) The country as a whole does not. Each individual business does, as well as the customers that support those businesses...because they work cheap, thus keeping costs down in the industries that hire them. And yes, they do spend money (and sales taxes) in our shops. The ones who use a fake Social Security Number (instead of getting paid in cash under the table) are also paying Soc. Sec and other taxes, but cannot collect the benefits. Edit - because you asked. It would be racial profiling if the roadblock was set up FOR THE PURPOSE OF catching illegals, because then they'd mostly be stopping people who looked Latino. If it was set up for another purpose, but happened to catch some illegals, then it might avoid getting struck down for that reason. There are other problems with general roadblocks, though, as the court fights over roadblocks for drunk drivers have shown. Your local community may be still setting up roadblocks simply because no one has had an expensive enough lawyer to challenge the policy in court yet. But if you're already getting stopped at roadblocks, showing your license...why aren't the illegals already getting caught? I'm all in favor of stopping illegal immigration, and not in favor of amnesty. It is embarrassing that the most powerful country in the world cannot control its own borders. But I don't want to break the Constitution to do it. Also, let's not kid ourselves - if we succeed, and get rid of all the illegals, it WILL cause problems, and some jobs either won't get done or will cost a lot more, thus raising prices throughout the economy. That's not a reason to not do it...but it is something we need to be aware of.
- 2) Every child deserves an education regardless of status, be it social, economical or racial. 3) Would you pay $9/hr for someone to clean your toilets? 4) Why don't you try moving to Mexico to work there, illegally. Sorry, I don't mean to sound so sarcastic but you shouldn't be asking rhetorical questions, but that's just my opinion.
- Never mind all these Beanerdict Arnolds. You feel this way because you are true American. PC will be thrown in the trash soon enough and we'll throw them all out
- Its like waking up in a bad nightmare huh... I can pretty much relate to everything you say, as I come from a small town myself. Now watch how many times you get called a racist on here... Anyway... "1) A local retired police officer recently told me that our county does not set up road blocks to catch illegal immigrants because that would be considered racial profiling and the ACLU would be all over it. What is a fair argument against that? I asked him why a road block would have to be set up JUST to catch illegal immigrants. They aren't the only ones breaking the law around here."----------Its not racial profiling however the ACLU has brought multiple state lawsuits to deter this practice. Most municipalities are tapped as it is and the last thing they want is to pay for a lawyer to defend their actions against the ACLU endless army of lawyers.. This is simply a fear tactic....The only way this will change is for our courts to stand up to this crap and set p residence in one state. The ACLU is using that tactic as well. They are suing in Maryland ,which has the most liberal court in the system. One win in this area will set p residence.. "2) Why do our schools go to such great lengths to provide Spanish translators and accept children whose parents are WIDELY KNOWN to be in our country illegally? What does our school gain by taking in these kids?"----- No child left behind has left all of our children behind. Since 86 shamnesty our schools have been in a steady downward spiral. The direct correlation between the illegal immigrant population and the high school drop out rates in this country are almost mirrored. "3) On the argument that illegal immigrants work harder than Americans, would it be fair to argue that Americans would work just as hard if paid a decent wage? I've been told by many that illegals "take the jobs that Americans do not want." I don't think that is fair to say. I am willing to clean toilets for 9 bucks an hour and would clean them spotlessly, while an illegal immigrant would do the same job for 5 bucks an hour cash. Is it fair to argue that Americans WOULD work just as hard, but are just not willing to do the job for a low wage?"------ Most of the illegal criminals you see doing these jobs live in one of two conditions in the US. 1. They have left their family in home country and they live here to work solely. Meaning, they live with 4 or 5 other illegals in a 1 bedroom apartment. The rent and cost of living is much more manageable this way. 2. Illegals spit out anchor babies.... More babies more subsidies from the gov... Think about it logically, how can anyone support your bills with 5 kids making 6 bucks an hour. They cant. Not without assistance. This is where the 14th Amendment provides them a cushy life. They are eligible for food stamps, free med, free school, rent vouchers, etc, etc, etc....All on behalf of the child they had here illegally.... Wonderful system huh???? Heres the real paradox.. The US gov pays for those programs. Who pays the gov??? You do... So in a sense, your tax dollars are going to programs that subsidize this cheap labor. So really, the corporations that are profiting from this, are using your taxes to make "cheaper" products... This is a falsity as corporations rarely pass profits onto consumer through price savings. Most price modules are based on supply demand not on abundance of labor.... "As a 4th question...WHY does our country seemed to cater to individuals working illegally in our country? The only answer I can come up with is that they are spending money in our shops...What's the deal?"-------- Wrong... Its the corporations that are benefiting from this... The corps are the ones funding presidential campaigns. Basically, who is on the stage for an administrative change every four years is irrelevant, as the ones that pay for them are staying the same... Until all citizens stand up and say enough is enough, we will continue to be screwed over....
- In my opinion, to answer ALL of your questions, there is a rampant greed in this country that is growing tremendously. The Republicans used to favor deportation but then realized how much more money the Big Corporations can rake in as well as Big shots in government having their lawns maintained, and their children taken care of by these people that accept so much less and appreciate it so much more (WE ARE TOLD!). Why do you think the Republicans hate the union so much? Because unions are set up to pay the LEGAL AMERICANS a decent living wage. There is LESS profit for them when they hire an American that even makes minimum wage, as opposed to an illegal immigrant willing to do the job for a third of even that! Plus, there are NO TAXES involved!!! Its a win-win situation for all of the elite! The Democrats and the Republicans are a bunch of thieves that ALL hire illegals and keep them here for their Big shot friends to hire as well. We the people are obviously asking for too much even when we are merely asking for minimum wage! I hope this helps you to understand a little bit more.
- 1. "They aren't the only ones breaking the law"..that's so true! But, that is violating Human Civil Rights. 2. Everybody gains from "taking in the children you say are children of parents that are WIDELY KNOWN to be in our country illegally"....lol. More eductated children, more jobs created for Americans and other children benefit from a second language. http://www.kidslovespanish.com/benefits.php Children who have been exposed to a foreign language at an early age, often learn to read faster and with greater ease because they are able to recognize the relationship between letters and their sounds without the help of visual objects. Exposure to a second language clearly benefits children’s reading abilities. American Psychological Association 3. WAGES? sorry to break it to you! but farms have raised their wages, millions of Americans are now unemployed, Millions of illegals have fled the country, but our farms are still struggling to find workers.....Hmmmmm! I wonder why? http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/10/10/eveningnews/main3354341.shtml Farms Struggle With Immigration Crackdown Loss Of Immigrant Labor Could Shutter Family Farms In New York 4. Like 23 said, many many US companies have come to rely on these hard working people. Take them away, and we'll really see a crash in our economy. http://blogs.chron.com/immigration/archives/2008/05/post_128.html Illegal immigrants' value to economy? $1.8 trillion If the 8.1 million undocumented immigrants who cut lawns, bus tables and perform other jobs disappeared overnight, the nation's economy would lose nearly $1.8 trillion in annual spending. Texas, the second-hardest-hit state after California, would lose 1.2 million undocumented workers and $220.7 billion in expenditures.
- you are a racist 100% , how many people from europe, asia, africa, are illegal and nobody say anything. chinese restaurants everywhere, nobody say anything, be honest. Americans hate Mexicans....sorry for the Mexicans.....
- Response to Q. 1 - This is just another indication of the lack of a proper response that citizens are getting from those in authority lately. No excuse is acceptable for non-enforcement of laws from our law-enforcement agencies. If they back away from enforcing laws it's usually because political big wigs at the top have told them to back off. And if the political big wigs are shying away from an issue, it's usually because big business has urged them to do so. Many big businesses do not want pressure exerted on the local illegal populations - they need for them to stay in the area to be exploited....... Response to Q. 2 - Because our schools receive funding according to the amount of students enrolled in each school system. Our school systems get so much per head - not matter what their legal status or nationality. Schools will enroll two-legged horses - as long as they get moola for doing so............ Response to Q. 3 - In many of the illegal immigrant's countries receiving low wages for long, hard hours of work is the norm. It is not the norm for American citizens to work for less than a living wage. Americans who would take illegal's jobs at low pay levels would be stigmatized and asked where their brains went? No American wants to be exploited. That is one of the main reasons that the American Revolution took place. American workers should not have to sell themselves cheaply - but some may have to .......as long as we allow unfair competition to enter our country.......... Response to Q. 4 - See response to Q. 1.
- In the end, what is really boils down to is Business practices. There are going to be individuals who want to hire illegals just because they realize they can make and save a lot more money then by hiring legal workers. In the end, the only way to stop this is for people to stop hiring illegal immigrants and penalize heavily on individuals that do.
- Here in Vegas, there many illegal immigrants as well. We are called racists because it's the only way these people are defending themselves. remember, these people hates their countries and are willing to do anything to stay here. Calling people who are driving them out racists is one of the best defend for them...for now, at least. They actually know that we don't hate Mexicans, and that we only hate it when they break the law but they are not willing to listen to that part.
