Finding references for CA PE Exam if your work experience is in another state?

I need to take the CA Professional Engineer Exam for Mechanical Engineers. I am having difficulty finding references for my qualified work experience. My qualified work experience was in another state where no one had CA PE, obviously. How can I find references? I have documents proving my work experience but how do I get someone to consider them and act as a reference? Thanks!

Adel, in terms of the PE, there are two types of references - personel and professional, you are asking about professional, and several (I don't remember how many) need to be professional engineers, but they don't need to be PE in California. Contact your previous employers, I also had one of my professors as a reference but don't remember if he was in the PE category at the time or not. You don't need to "find" references, you already have them because you've been working for PEs in other states and that's what they want.
