Are backpackers on working holiday visa finding it tough to find work in Sydney at the moment?
We have family staying with us. Two young girls in early 20's who since Oct 2007 have been unable to find work in Sydney. They are looking for 40 hours a week work, not 10 -15 hours here and there. Started looking for bar/ cafe work and now looking for office/admin/customer service style work.

- The best place to look for backpacker jobs are the magazines such as TNT and British Balls. It is hard to find a 40 hr job such as a retail and office work as they know they can get locals who will stay long term were as a backpacker can only work in one place for 3 months max. Bar work is best easy to find in high tourist areas esp. British/Irish themed bars, or fruit picking unless your in accounts or a nursing etc. it will be hard to find a good job. Good Luck.
- an employer will not hire someone fulltime that they know can only work for them for 6 months, its not worth the training some one on a working holiday visa can only work up to 6 months with any 1 employer Working You can do any kind of work in Australia and may work with the same employer for up to six months. The six month work limitation applies to full-time, part-time, casual and shift work. Workplace-based training is considered to be work. You are able to undertake workplace-based training with each employer for up to six months. http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/index.htm
