How to present myself to an employer at a career fair?

My school has a business career fair next week and I am graduating this semester and am doing that job search stuff. I'm going to be wearing a suit and have extra resumes and stuff, I am just wondering how to begin a conversation with the recruiter. Do I just walk up and "Hi, my name is ___, here is my resume"? How do I engage in conversation with them?

  1. Prepare a short snapshot of yourself, wait for them to ask for the resume or politely offer it to them. Let them know you are graduating this summer and try to engage in a short conversation.
  2. I would do some research. Ask what your other classmates are going to do. I don't think you need to wear a 'suit', that can be too formal. I think 'business casual' is better. And research those companies. Think of why you want to work in those companies, what can you offer for the companies, why should they hire you.
  3. Your school should have a list of the companies that will be present at the job fair. Get a copy of that list and then do your "Research." Decide which ones you want to approach and then introduce yourself, tell them what you're interested in doing and then see what positions they are filling. Hi, I'm Joe and I'm graduating with a degree in Computer Networking. I've done some research on XYZ company and wanted to know what positions your company is seeking to fill. Well, Joe, it's nice to meet you. I'm John and I'm the recruiter for XYZ and we are looking to fill some entry level network administrator positions. Do you have a copy of your resume on you? and there you have it. Be real with the people. http://www.write-a-free-resume.com
  4. Talk to the co-ordinator of the event and find out what companies will be there. Do some research on the company so that when you go to that booth, you can say a little something about the business. Something like "Hello, my name is ___. I recently saw where you company was recognized for ___ and I would be appreciative if you could tell me more about this exciting company." What for them to ask you for a resume. If they don't ask you for one, but do ask you to fill out some paperwork, attach your resume.
