I need some tips for my first time at a career fair?
I have never been to one..I assume I should wear a suit? Too formal? I am not sure..It will be at my University with companies from eBay all the way to Sheriff Departments, so a wide range. I will be coming with some resume's, but I have no clue what to ask the people when I get to their company? I mean, the point is, I want a job...so what are the things I should be asking and doing?

- um well a suit would be good. if your a guy, then wear nice suit pants in black or gray, a button up shirt in a somewhat colorful color but not too bright just classy, i'd skip a white shirt you might look too waiter, i'd skip the tie, and a suit coat that matches the pants, you can leave it unbuttoned to make it a little more casual and comfortable. if female, nice dress pants in black and a nice shirt in color, and possibly a nice blazer jacket. Um bring many copies of your resume, ask them questions about the company, or if you know about them already then tell them what you know and discuss that. i'd ask questions about recruiting, (you should probably know what kind of work they do), and stuff of that nature, maybe ask about the companies future plans (but only if a company not if like sheriffs department you know their future is to protect people), etc. you should make sure you shake hands introduce yourself, they should launch a pre-prepared monologue, if not ask them about their company, their companies future goals, etc. how they are doing in the current economy (IT jobs you can skip this because they wont be as affected as badly), etc. be relaxed, be professional, have confidence. Also before you go you should know there will be a lot of other people there, and you might feel slightly intimidated because they have massive portfolios, and things and will all be well dressed and prepared as well, and you might feel like a needle in a haystack, hold your head up, talk to people, network, and ignore them, or if you have to interact of course be professionally polite to them. whatever you do don't just walk by all the booths, stop in to ones that you dont know about or might be interested in and ask questions, meet the people. and dont expect to walk away with a job, you might get interviews maybe not, just know you handed your resume around, you might get some calls, hopefully you made some contacts to call. and if they dont have any openings that might fit you ask them to keep on file and let you know if any thing comes up they think you might be good for, or might intrest you. good luck.
