Finding work as an international university student?

I am leaving to Canada next year to start my first year at University. I plan on getting a job to support my tuition fees and other costs. What kind of work would I expect to find? and would I make a substantial amount of money?

  1. Some more information would be useful: What part of Canada? Typically, if you can work on campus and expect a "decent" wage, though your hours (depending on the college) are limited. In general terms, perhaps 7-12 an hour at 20 hours per week. But this is going to vary on location and what school. One thing that is about the same is the type of job: There is the food services, this is everything you'd expect it to be. Cooking, cleaning, even register work. There is building management and student union positions. The student centres have a variety of jobs, like managing events, janitorial, and so forth. There are lab positions, like monitoring the lab or carting around Audio/Visual equipment. Of course library staff. Some of the bigger universities have more complex jobs available. Programming jobs, planning committees, and so forth.
