how would I go about finding work as a young artist in high school?

I read of many artists who do work for bands and websites and companies. I'm not sure how to go about doing so without having the money to showcase my art through my own website and find out how to broadcast myself. Some day I'd like to exhibit my art but in the mean time want to know of any websites for commission that can be trusted, and how to start getting paid to make art for companies, and bands. Help needed.

  1. Well if you want to showcase your art on a website you can easily do that with one of the many free websites out there (geocities comes to mind). Or make a blog, or myspace, or facebook account for your art. Try doing things for free as well. Find a friend's band and offer to do the artwork for them in exchange for them talking about you. If you see notices for fund-raisers that have no logo or graphic give them a call and ask if they'd like to use something that you've made for them for the cost of putting you in the program or thank yous. Once you've gotten some experience and people see your work in the community they may just start contacting you. Make sure you always have some sort of contact info like an email [short & easy to spell] on the stuff you give out for free. Work your way up and by the time you've graduated you may already have a career ready for you.
