  1. You have to start somewhere. Welfare can end up being an vicious cycle. At least if you're working on minimum wage you are still taking care of yourself and not depending on the government to support you. In some cases, it can't be helped, but if you don't have to take that step, why do it?
  2. You can move upwards once your'e working - get paid more and get promotions. Once you are employed you are more attractive to other employers because you show commitment and you may then get better paid at a new job. Working, you set an example for young people too. What better way to improve self worth. All the best!!
  3. there are advantages to working and not everyone qualifies for welfare unless they are disabled or have small children for example When you work you contribute to your future finances, social security and retirement. You get experience if you are young which gives you opportunities to increase your salary and skills. You connect with people who work, you network, you learn the ropes. There is no benefit to collecting welfare payments. That is for deadbeats and losers if you are young enough to work. You can have children later on when you have a good salary, hopefully not as a teenager and depend on the goverment for charity. You can go to college part time at night or communtiy college the first 2 years.
  4. Pell Grants and subsidized Stafford loans. Contact your local community college and fill out a FAFSA to find out what financial aid you are eligible for.
