Will attending an American University make it easier to get a job in the States?

Easier than if I went to a Canadian University? (I am Canadian but am interested in possibly moving to the States).

  1. Why do you want to come here? Don't you realize how much better you have it up there? You know that if you come here then you will have to pay every dollar you ever make towards healthcare and probably still lose your house if you get sick. It might theoretically be easier for you to get a job but you'd have to go to one of the top universities here to have a shot anymore. There are no jobs for people that are already here.
  2. No. What is important is the degree you obtain, your grades and your ability to communicate your capabilities. The only things that can be obstacles would be getting the proper work permit(s) and obtaining residency should you want to stay in the US. The higher the degree and discpline the easier these hurdles become to navigate
  3. From what I've heard, if you attend a university in Canada that is accredited by the same agencies that cover the better universities in the US, then that would probably be okay. Check here http://chea.org/search/search.asp Enter Canada under country, hit search, and it should give you a list of accredited schools. (There are other accreditation agencies as well.) I would then follow up with a phone call to the school, and ask the same question and see if you like the answer. Another bit of research would be to contact a few employers in the US...ones where you might like to work, and ask them as well. Do the groundwork so that you can feel confident that the path you choose goes where you want it to go.
