  1. Go in person and ask to speak to the manager. If you give your resume to anyone other than the manager the odds are it won't even get to them.
  2. for any basic job, excluding a profession you can hand in the application to anyone you think is responsible. Then ask if the manager or HR person is available and ask if you can see him for a moment. Don't take a lot of time just introduce yourself and say how much you'd like to work there, and maybe say a good thing about yourself that relates to the job. Shakes hands and that's it.
  3. Absolutely speak to the manager. It is possible that the employee might not want the competition or might have a friend going for the same job. Always get your answers from the top. Calling the manager could show persistence and initiative as well. Get them on the phone and ask them when you can sit down and talk. You can not let an application do all the talking for you if you are serious about getting this job. You need to make the impression in person or at least live on the phone to set yourself apart from the rest. Good luck!!!
  4. ALWAYS hand it to the store manager then later call the manager and ask if there is anything availible now or later.
  5. I don't like to ask to speak to the manager in person. Generally, the manager on duty is very busy, and his time is reserved for customers. Some businesses are turned off by people who ask to see the manager. It also can make for a difficult experience with your future co-workers. My style is this: Go during an off-peak time of business, leave the application with whomever is working at the time. Maybe ask some little questions like "do you like working here?" See if they may possible tell you the manager's name. etc. About 48 hours later, call, and say: "My name is...I submitted a job application a few days ago and I wanted to follow up and see what the next step is in the the process?" This way, you are making the personal connection, demonstrating your persistance, and respecting the time of the manager and current employees.
  6. the manager. being open for part time increases your chances.
